Torquay Art Print IV

Hundreds of surfers, one yellow board, and a message loud enough to reach Canberra. The Torquay surf community paddled out in protest against the largest seismic blasting proposal in Australian history, and from above the sheer number of people in the water tells you everything you need to know about how the town felt about it.

The protest was about protecting the Great Australian Bight and its marine life from fossil fuel exploration. The proposed blasting would have sent shockwaves louder than an atomic bomb through the ocean every ten seconds, around the clock, for up to 400 days, disrupting habitats, feeding patterns, and the ability of marine animals to communicate. The community showed up, made their point, and the project was abandoned.

Printed on museum-grade paper and Australian made, each print is available framed or unframed in a range of sizes. Torquay wall art for any home.
